About the Exhibition:
Light and darkness are elemental concepts that engender a multiplicity of meanings and experiences, in both figurative and metaphorical terms. They coexist like the symbol of yin and yang; and follow universal systems that we understand from the very way our cosmos is arranged.
The compilation of photographs from Amita Talwar’s diverse body of work, reflects on the intermingling of darkness and light, and the subtle relationships of concealment and revelation that it makes visible. Talwar’s images often embrace the subject of Transience – the ephemerality of, and impermanence of both physical and intangible entities. In a period of disorientation like the current times, the relevance of acknowledging this in-betweenness, and finding a way to balance between extremities, is a valuable message.
Visually, her work demonstrates an organic understanding of compositional devices, and explores the many possibilities of the camera lens. She has a way of framing forms and structures as well as subtle associations of colour and light, leading the viewer gently into an entire range of atmospheres and experiences.
