Democracy in Germany & India was constituted after a long struggle over many years. Both countries had distinct experiences with nationalism leading up to independence – this played a role in the language, tenor & the making of the German Basic Law & the Indian Constitution, respectively.
Both India & Germany gained independence at a similar time, that is, mid 20th century. Relatedly, the role of women in shaping the new nations too has interesting, multilayered and complex histories.
Hosted by the Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, the Festival of Democracy - panel discussion & exhibition - explores the women who contributed to the laying of new nations. The panel includes Michaela Küchler, Consul General at the German Consulate in Chennai & Kalpana Sharma, esteemed senior journalist
